Erosion

Mechanical stress from water flow or wind can remove soil or rock particles and transport them to another place. In earth science, this process is called erosion. It is one of the natural processes that form our landscapes constantly and inevitably. Examples are rainfall, the bedrock wear of rivers, costal erosion by booth, wind and sea but also glacial processes as abrasion.

This digital illustration shows a canyon formed by bedrock wear of a river and rainfall. I used ist to illustrate the Hjulström diagram, which explains how the forces of the streamflow in a river and the grain sizes of the particles influence whether they are deposited, eroded or transported.

As in the project “Metamorphosis”, I used a style that is used in Industrial design to quickly sketch a concept. In comparison is shows a more rough and quick sketching style.
